Welcome to a NordForsk Network (2003-2007)
and Ecology of Ectomycorrhizal fungi
This Nordic-Baltic initiative offered training for PhD students in mycology and especially those with an interest in the ecology and taxonomy of ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi. The network arranged several courses and work-shops and provided opportunities for student exchange among participating institutes.
A central theme of the network is methods and tools for the identification of fungi from ECM root-tips. In a parallel project we are building a sequence database called UNITE as a long-term resource for molecular identification / barcoding of fungi and fungal phylogenetic analysis / bioinformatics.
NordForsk (NorFa) support commenced on January 1, 2003, but the network dates back to a meeting in Höör in 2001. A second meeting was held in Tartu 2002 and a third one in Helsinki 2003. See Recent events and activities for the latest information.
